The Fabulous Miss Wendy - www.thefabulousmisswendy.com
A couple years ago I got the pleasure to meet The Fabulous Miss Wendy as they toured with Green Jelly and Nashville Pussy. At that time she was managed by Tom Zutaut who helped in a major way to get Metallica and Guns N Roses, among others, into famous waters. Since then she broke off into a blazing fire of awesome as she single handedly defined what a female lead guitarist can actually do in fantastically blazing, showmanship ways.
She has a wealth of success from her younger years up until the present. She really is symbolic of what a rock star is! Her life has been on stage, in front of fans and killing each set she performs. There is so much information like how she beet out hundreds of kids in her teens to win a spot in an all girl band on Nickelodean. And also that her debut CD was produced by Devo's Gerald Casale, engineered by Paul David Hagar, (of Avril Levine, GooGoo Dolls and All American Rejects fame).
MTV's LOGO Channel played her videos and nominated her video “I Like Boys” for their “Ultimate Sexiest Videos” contest beside videos by Ciara, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, the Pussycat Dolls, and more.
A wealth of other cool things, hot pics, slammin' tunes and more can be found at her website. So use the link and get more right after this fun interview!
THE INTERVIEW
Daniel/HRM:
Please tell me
your name,
what part you
play in the
band and the
last time you
actually hand
wrote a
check.
My name is
Wendy J
acobson,
AKA "The
Fabulous
Miss Wendy."
I am an
independent recording artist from Hollywood California... I write all my own songs, sing, and (perform) all my own guitars. I last hand wrote a check yesterday.
Daniel/HRM: So it’s not such a dying form of payment after all. You are hailed as a master of guitar, mostly your leads. There are not a lot of female lead guitarists known for powerful leads. Is this something that people told you that you should focus on or is sweltering leads something you just wanted to do?
Wendy/TFMW: I'm really glad you asked! The leads were always something practiced ever since I was in school. I was playing leads before I started seriously writing songs. I didn't even want to be a lead singer because I felt that girls were always stereotyped as the lead singer and I was pissed about it. My guitar teacher encouraged me to be a lead singer as well. He said, "Why limit yourself? You can do it all!"
Daniel/HRM: It’s been a couple years since I last interviewed you. It’s great to see you are still climbing the charts. You’ve had remarkable progress. What’s the latest achievement you accomplished?
Wendy/TFMW: Thank you so much! The last achievement I accomplished was recording a studio album with the legendary Kim Fowley.
Daniel/HRM: Describe this album as if it were the greatest thing ever created from alligator skin.
Wendy/TFMW: "No One Can Stop Me" is a Feel Great Record that will Hype You Up and make you Ready to Take on the World! It will also make you Dance. (smiles)
Daniel/HRM: Are you a fan of alligators?
Wendy/TFMW: I have not had any encounters with
them. There are no alligators where I am from.
Daniel/HRM: If you were a reptile what would you
choose and why?
Wendy/TFMW: A chameleon because I cannot count
the number of times I have changed into my stage
clothes and put on makeup in the car before a gig or
a party.
Daniel/HRM: Do you have a song that would
represent an alligator wrestling a crocodile and
then they fall in mad passionate love?
Wendy/TFMW: “The Difference Between Love and Hate”.
Daniel/HRM: Cool! You are madly passionate in your musicianship. Your stage presence is electrifying! Do you have a choreography routine that you practice or is this raw, spur-of-the-moment movement?
Wendy/TFMW: It's all pretty spur of the moment, mostly trying to keep my stage clothes from falling off in mid-performance.
Daniel/HRM: (laughs)
Wendy/TFMW: Don't need any Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" moments.
Daniel/HRM: (laughs) One of the coolest things I read was that you recently worked with Madonna or her company on a video. What was that like?
Wendy/TFMW: Madonna Universities Capstone film class made the music video for Jailbait. They did a great job. I am stoked with the way it came out.
Daniel/HRM: You also were part of Guitar World. That is awesome. Compare that feeling of awesome to your best Christmas Present ever.
Wendy/TFMW: Thanks so much! When I found out I was going to be in Guitar World the joy I felt was indescribable! It was one of the happiest moments of my life.
Daniel/HRM: How did you feel being selected for that magazine?
Wendy/TFMW: On cloud nine.
Daniel/HRM: Did you get to have any tablature printed in it?
Wendy/TFMW: Not this time. Perhaps next time. (smiles)
Daniel/HRM: What’s going on in your immediate future?
Wendy/TFMW: I am (almost ready) getting ready to shoot a new music video for the song “Silicon Assassin” which is the theme song for an independent movie starring Richard Hatch from Battlestar Gallactica. We are shooting it this month and Richard Hatch is going to be in the video!
Daniel/HRM: That is incredible! Where can people go to get more info about you?
Wendy/TFMW:
www.thefabulousmisswendy.com and www.thefabulousmisswendysitunes.com
Also props to GMP Guitars, Roccaforte Amps, 1616, Suite 11 LA, RocknRoll Gang Star, and Four Twenty Clothing Detroit. You can find more information about me on all their websites too!
Daniel/HRM: Is there anything else you would like to add?
Wendy/TFMW: Please support your favorite independent artists, they depend on you!
Daniel/HRM: True words indeed! Here is that last question you probably were prepared for by now. Let’s say that you became so legendary for your guitar playing that each string on your personal guitar took you to somewhere fabulous by striking it. Where would each of these strings take you and what song of yours would best represent this?
Wendy/TFMW:
E - Playing a crazy rock show, ground zero - "Silicon Assassin"
A - In the studio, laying down the next record - "Violence"
D - Hiding out writing new songs - "Alice in Wonderland"
G - Doing whatever and going wherever I want to because I can - "No One Can Stop Me"
B - Anywhere making people happy - "Call Me Fabulous"
E - Heaven - "Sex Drugs & Rock&Roll
Daniel/HRM: Thank you so much girl. You are always a treat to watch perform. It’s no wonder you’re such a shining star.
